SPANISH FOR SOCIAL SERVICES Fall 2011
With its highly specialized material, this course propelled me to learn more about Hispanic culture and American culture alike. Using industry-specific vocabulary and proven sociological models, I learned how to both offer and receive everyday social services while speaking Spanish.
FRENCH GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION Fall 2011
In this class, I learned how to write in a gamut of styles in French; I wrote a descriptive piece, a narrative piece, and a "letter to the editor" tackling a serious issue. In order to write these compositions, I studied specific grammar points in great depth and learned a host of new, specialized vocabulary.
INTRODUCTION TO HISPANIC LITERATURE Spring 2011
As my first serious Spanish-language literature course, this class represented my first foray into literary analysis in another language. I investigated robust poetry, dark war-time anecdotes, and a full stage script in precise and enlightening depth.
HONORS RHETORIC AND CIVIC LIFE Spring 2011
In this class, I learned to be critical of the words, pictures, and media around me. I also got to create some of my own; here I discovered the power of blogging, wrote an issue-based essay, and delivered a speech.
IBERIAN CIVILIZATION Fall 2010
Although this course was taught in English, the deep understanding for the history and culture of Spain that I gained from this course has proved valuable time and again. As my studies in Spanish continue, I continually see the indelible ties between Spanish literature, art, politics, and the rich culture from which they came.
